The grinding capacity of the Comandante hand mill is impressive. This grinder uses a gradual grind adjustment system that can grind fine enough for Turkish coffee and coarse enough for a french press.

To adjust the grind, unscrew the grinder holder and turn the knob on the bottom of the grinder mechanism. Another great feature of the Comandante is that the grind setting remains as consistent as possible, even when you remove and reinstall the grinder. The burrs on the Comandante are extremely sharp and truly shake resistant. The grinder's center shaft is housed in double-axle bearings to keep burrs in place so the grind is homogeneous and your coffee tastes great.

While this is certainly a less-than-ideal grinder for someone who consistently grinds enough coffee for 7-8 cups at a time, it actually isn't too badly sized given the compact nature of the grinder.
Portability 4.5 points
As we just mentioned, the Comandante C40 is a very compact hand grinder. Its small size makes it a pretty portable grinder overall.
However, the Comandante weighs only 740g, which can be packed into a backpack or suitcase quite easily. As long as you plan ahead when packing for a plane trip, it's not a problem. The second limitation is the glass part, which is naturally more fragile than the steel and wood parts of the grinder. Just be careful when packing the glass piece.
Maintenance 5 points
The Comandante C4 coffee grinder is easy to maintain. It is not a problem to disassemble the grinder thanks to its simple elegance. As with similar manual hand grinders, you only need to rub a soft brush into your burrs every month or so to remove any old coffee grounds that may be stuck there.
